Joss Whedon Works His Magic Again With Dr. Horrible Act I
by Josh Roth @ 6:13 pm July 16th, 2008
Before I begin, let me prefise by that I may be biased because of my extensive love for the works of Joss Whedon, which includes Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly, Serenity, and even Alien: Resurrection. Whedon is always abe to suprise me, with his quick whitted writing, clever mixing of genres, and all around brilliance. When I heard that Whedon and company were making a new media, online only musical series about a supervillian in love I was thrilled. I’m a huge fan of Whedon, sci-fi and musicals. I knew it be great, but would it be popular? Here we are a few weeks later and Dr. Horrible has graced our computer monitors. And it is as brilliant and clever as always, and it’s looking like it’ll be an economic success as well!! -

Del Toro Outdoes Himself with Creatures, Monsters, and Giant Golden Robots in Hellboy 2
by Josh Roth @ 3:49 pm July 11th, 2008
Guillermo del Toro is a true artist with a camera, and a cool guy to boot. Del Toro is a huge fan of the Hellboy comics, written by Mike Mignola, so when he brought Hellboy to the big screen, it was a perfect adaption to the comics. Hellboy 2: The Golden Army picks up where the last one left off, with Hellboy (Ron Perlman), Abe Sapien (Doug Jones), and Liz Sherman (Selma Blair) (John Myers is MIA because the actor, Rupert Evans was busy with the stage) kicking supernatural out of the BPRD in New Jersey. I was a huge fan of the first Hellboy, thanks to its perfect mix of sci-fi and fantasy. Then del Toro brought us Pan’s Labyrinth, which blew most people away. I definitely enjoyed it, but meh. And now Hellboy 2, which gives us the best of Hellboy and Pan’s Labyrinth, del Toro’s brilliant vision is perfectly executed in this excellent sequel to one of my favorite sci-fi films. -
Joss Whedon Hits the Web with Dr. Horrible Teaser
by Josh Roth @ 1:57 pm June 25th, 2008
Joss Whedon is a genius, no questions asked. He’s proven it time and time again by reinventing genres and the way we look at television, and now he’s setting his sites on internet video and comic books. He resurrected Buffy the Vampire Slayer with season eight in comic book form, much to the satisfaction of fans like myself, and now he’s creating a truly original web-only series called Dr. Horrible’s Sing-A-Long Blog, and get this, it’s a superhero musical starring Neil Patrick Harris, Nathan Fillion, and Felicia Day. The first teaser trailer has hit the web, and I couldn’t be more excited. Thanks to Felicia Day for the link. -
USA’s Burn Notice brings Bruce Campbell and James Bond to TV
by Josh Roth @ 1:36 pm June 24th, 2008
I can’t believe I didn’t get into this show earlier. It is a terrific combination of quick witted dialog, James Bond like action, and Bruce fraking Campbell. Burn Notice is about ex-spy Michael Weston (Jeffrey Donovan) trying to discover why he was “burned” (fired from being a spy, had his bank accounts and passport frozen) and stranded in Miami. The premise alone makes it worth a look, but it’s also incredibly well written and has some surprisingly high production values. -
The Middleman is Butt-Kicking Milk Drinking Comic Booky Fun
by Josh Roth @ 8:02 pm June 23rd, 2008
ABC Family, for some reason, picked up the comic book series The Middleman and hired the writer of the comics, Javier Grillo-Marxuach to pen the new show. The MIddleman turns out to be some serious super hero fun, but I can’t help but feel it would be better suited on the Sci-Fi Channel. The show follows the adventures of the milk drinking wise cracking Middleman played by Matt Keeslar, and his sidekick Wendy Watson (Natalie Morales). -

The Doctor Avoids Spoilers and Fights Shadows in Steven Moffat’s Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead!!
by Josh Roth @ 1:57 pm June 8th, 2008
I am literally shaking from excitement at the end of this weeks episode of Doctor Who. Since this is the first non-announcement post on Nerdgasmic, I’d like to express my aboslute love for everything Doctor Who, both old and new. Since the re-boot of Doctor Who started back in 2005 episodes written by Steven Moffat (such as The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances, The Girl in the Fireplace, and Blink) have been consistently incredible. And of course his two parter this season, Silence in the Library (last week) and Forest of the Dead (this week), is no exception. Moffat is a perfect writer for Doctor Who, he is an expert at creating and expanding the wonderful mythology behind the show, the science fiction and fantasy aspects, while keeping the characters exciting and deep. This season’s two parter from Steven Moffat may just be the best episodes since the show returned. -
